Professor Ronald Weber joins Monash South Africa as the third Pro Vice-Chancellor since the inception of the campus in 2001. Professor Weber comes to Monash South Africa from Monash Australia where he was the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology. He brings with him a wealth of experience and new ideas to take the campus into the future.
Professor Weber took over from Professor Pretorius whose term ended on 30 April 2013.
Short Biography of Professor Weber
Professor Ron Weber is the Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash South Africa. Previously, he was Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University from 1 February 2004 until 31 March 2013. Prior to joining Monash University, he was Professor of Information Systems in the School of Business and Research, Director for the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Queensland.
Professor Weber is a past president of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand and the international Association for Information Systems. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, CPA Australia, the Association for Information Systems, and the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. In 2002, he was elected a life-member of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.
In 1994, Professor Weber won one of four Silver Jubilee Awards given worldwide by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association for contributions to the discipline of information systems control and audit. In 2000, he received the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand’s inaugural Outstanding Educator Award and the Notable Contributions to the Accounting Literature Award. In 2000, he also won the Australian Prime Minister’s Award for University Teacher of the Year.
From 2002-2004, Professor Weber was Editor-in-Chief of the MIS Quarterly, which is often rated as the premier research journal in the information systems discipline. Since the commencement of the journal in 1977, he is the first non-North American to hold this position. In 2011, Professor Weber was given the international Association for Information Systems’ Leo Award, which is the highest award given by the Association to recognize a lifetime of contributions to the information systems discipline.
