Many of us take on the challenge to go back to university to further our studies. Even though this may seem like a daunting task when you are already working full-time, it is in fact very possible and manageable to juggle both at the same time.
There are a few things to keep in mind before and during the time of enrolling for your programme and here are some useful tips to consider:
Prioritise
One of the first important steps to take once embarking on studying while working, is adjusting your daily schedule. You will need to prioritise your daily activities and decide what is crucial in nature for you to be doing and then ensure that you set aside time to study or complete assignments. This will be easier said than done as you will need to train yourself to cut down on your leisure activities and down time and be focused when it’s time to switch to your books.
Find the balance
You will need to find a balance between work, making time to studying, and other daily activities. Yes, this is manageable and something that many individuals do on a daily basis. The best way to succeed is to be a good planner and plan your days on a calendar and sticking to it.
Don’t be too hard on yourself
Don’t push yourself to the point where you burn out. Allow yourself time to relax and do things that are fun. This will ensure that studying doesn’t feel like a chore and become something you don’t enjoy doing as well.
Enjoy this time
At the end of the day, you are studying further for yourself and to improve your own skills and knowledge. So, make sure this is an enjoyable time and you spend your time wisely. If you have a strong support system, this will also count in your favour and make this time more convenient.
When the going gets tough, don’t give up! At the end of the course when you have succeeded and qualified, you will look back and realise that it was all worth it.
